Default Paint removed from plastic grill?

Just wondering if anyone has removed the stock paint from their grill to reveal the black plastic instead? I've seen some jeeps in magazines that look like they've done this.

Is the grill pained or is it made from colored plastic?

The plastics on my Buell motorcycle where the same color all the way through. If you cut the plastic in half it was blue all the way through.
