Thumbs up Dana 30 & 44 Carrier Tech Help needed

I am planning on upgrading ring and pinion that came stock on my JK from 3.21 over to 4.56.

My question to the wiser members is the following:

1. do I need to change carrier for the D30 or the rear D44?
(FYI on my front axle I see casted the following: 2004898)

2. Where and what kind of carrier do I get for the abovementioned change?

Thanks a priori.

Read through this one:

For years, everyone was saying that with 3.21's, you will need a new carrier in the front D30. That thread seems to indicate that you may not.

If you find that you do need one, you can PM David at Northridge (a sponsor here), and he can set you up. Don't know what the shipping charges to Greece will be, but at least you'll save some coin by messaging him through the site instead of calling.

Vre kalosto!!

If you are going to lock the front, and/or rear, you're going to be changing out the carrier for the new lockable unit, so it wouldn't matter. If you're going to keep it open, the rear doesn't need a new carrier, but the front MIGHT need one. As stated above, the OP didn't have to change the carrier.

Some people have gotten away with reusing the 3.21 carrier in the front. I plan to get a new one so I know everything will be setup correctly without any extreme shimming. Northridge is your best bet for getting a good deal on a new carrier.

The rear you don't need one.

thank you all or your quick responses.

it looks like that whilst I am safe with the rear d44 without getting a new carrier,I will go with a new carrier for the front d30
