MBRP Exhaust Question
Counting down the days till I get the paycheck with my bonus in it.
I'm going with:
AEM intake with the dry filter
Superchips Flashpac
MBRP rock crawler exhaust (the one that relocates the muffler)
(all from Northridge I might add
)
My question is this: Since you can't see the exhaust, should I just get the cheapest/non finished version? Or, will that get a rusty and fall appart?
Seems like I could just paint it with black high heat paint and call it a day.
I have to say that the MBRP web site is great in that it allows you to hear their different exaust set ups. It really put me at ease. I did not want my Jeep to sound "ricey"
Any thoughts?

Thanks!

shredX: I've had the MBRP on since May '09 and couldn't be happier. It is louder than stock (I actually bought it ONLY for increased sound-who wants to drive a mini-van?!
) Sound is good and throaty but it does not have the heavy drone sound of oh say a Borla.
If you can swing it I would recommend the SS, I think it would be the last muffler you will buy for the JK.
Oh and Steve Nairn (MBRPtech1 on the forum) is just a really great guy to work with.

I personally got the stainless version because I live in PA where there is salt on the roads half the year. On my previous Jeep I did exhaust work and the first system I put on was stainless steel which lasted until the tip that was on it caught on a rock going in reverse while offroading
After that I went with a cheaper system in aluminized steel in case I did that again. Then I spent the next 3 years welding the system back together every 6 months when it would rust out
Not to mention by the end from all the cutting and welding my exhaust looked like garbage.
So I bought the stainless version of the off-road MBRP exhaust to get the best of both worlds. Not likely to get damaged while off-roading and not likely to rust out even after years and years. Now I'm sure the MBRP aluminized steel is a lot better quality than the stuff I was using, but I was willing to pay the extra cash for the peace of mind and longevity that I am hoping to get out of the JK and stainless exhaust system. Hope this helps

Thanks for all of the responses.
Dave at Northridge is having a sale on an intake/exhaust combo and the diff in price to have the higer quality is negligible. I love the look of the black even though you can't see it under normal driving conditions. My current exhaust is painted black. Why not keep with the theme? I thought I read in a different thread that the black is not aluminized. Does that put the aluminized (silver) one at the top, then black, then the base model?
I cant wait to hear it. Now, all I can hear as I accelerate is the 6MT gear shifter rattling and the rocks stuck in my tires.

Stainless Steel
Aluminized Steel
Black
The black is not stainless steel, so I assume it's the aluminized.

I know it has a 1yr warranty on the paint..but I would just be afraid of the black (powdercoat?) chipping off and then rusting.
I like the look of the black best, but I will probably stick with the SS when I decide to get mine.
Originally I thought the higher priced kits were Stainless Steel since that is they way 99% of the other companies are boasting about. I am no expert and I probably would not be able to tell the difference anyway.
Even the shop that did the work told me it was stainless, but MBRP set me straight when I mentioned it was stainless in the thread below:
