Question 38"+tires on 9" wheel width?

does anyone know of any company that makes a good offroad tire 38" or larger that is still narrow enough to fit a 9"wide rim?

Just curious.

The 38x13.5x18 Yokohama Geolander MT minimum recommended rim width is 8.5".

Most 38" tires like the KM2s are 13.5-14.5" wide. Some of them recommend 10" wide rims on the low end. You can get away with a 9" rim on some of those tires because the sidewalls are going to be fairly tall.

Any 38x12.50 or 38x13.50 should be fine on a 9" wide wheel. I have always run my 12.50's on 8" wide wheels.

Are you wanting maximum offroad traction, or better street (ie: Radial) driving?

I am not planning on anything anytime soon.
I was thinking about Off Road Evolution's Nitto Tire Giveaway on their facebook page, and it got me thinking about bigger tires in the future.

I think 40s would look great on my 20" wheels, but Im sure 38s would fit....Id have to do more measuring to figure fitment on the 40s.

I am very pleased with the look and function of the KM2s, but as I started to look at their specs, and some of the other brands, I saw that after you pass a 37/13.50, the width goes up,and thereby needs a wider wheel...plus too great a tire width will affect my fitment from side to side also, not just heighth.

Plus, I thought other people with 9" wide wheels might want to know whats available.

btw, i just found a 38/13.50/20 in a Toyo open country MT, which was my second choice when I got my BFGs.

I was going to suggest the Toyo Open Country MT 38x13.5x20, knowing that you run 20s but saw you found them. Should be a great tire for you and being a D rated tire they will retain some of your ride comfort, in fact likely improving it over the 36s.

The one issue I see with an automatic transmission is this places you right on the edge of what 5.13s or even 5.38s can deliver. Not enough for full time OD off, but when it's on you're likely to experience a fair amount of kick downs.

yeah...I know.
not sure my plans on that....
Its a 30 up front, so 5.13s max me out unless new axles magically appear.
On the other hand, my stock gearing isnt too bad pushing my 36s...
maybe 5.13s with my flashpaq would be ok.

or maybe when im ready to do something in a year or two, technology will have advanced in some way I dont know, and there will be a different option.
