Default 3.21's, 6spd, and 35's

So my new wheels should be here this week and i figured since im remounting maybe i should think about stepping the tires up a size... just wondering from people who have a 6spd and 3.21's how bad 35's are... as much info as possible would be great like your tire, and how highway and city are ect.. thanks so much

I had the same setup and it was OK but not great. OK around town and on the highway but 6th gear is completely useless. There's just not enough torque to push a JK at highway speeds in 6th gear. I was getting 16-17 mpg reliably on a 75 mile round trip commute (mix of city & hwy driving - max 70 mph).

I later took the plunge and put in a 5.7L hemi. If you can afford it, you'll have no regrets! 6th gear now has a purpose in life! I lost about 1 mpg fuel economy but this thing really scoots!

I have this exact set up and it doesn't really bother me much. Been off road a bunch, and its not ideal, but it works. I never use 6th gear, sometimes I have to downshift to 4th to stay going 70 on steeper hills, but it's liveable until I can afford my 5.13s and lockers. I've had the setup for about 9,000 miles now. Not terrible, just not ideal. Don't hesitate to get 35s if this is the only thing holding you back from making the jump.

i got 33's and 3'73 gears with an auto,,,,, so although it is completely different from what your asking,,,,, it runs fine...... i thing 35's with your gears might be a bit of a reach, but should be livable for a bit....

I have a 4:10 carrier (rear) for sale if anyone needs one going from 3.21's to 5.13's

it'll be a dog, but it'll be workable since you have a 6 speed

I was running 35's and 3.21's on my 6 speed 4 door until today. What a difference. I have had 35" GY Kevlars for a few months and waited for a bit to regear. With the 3.21's I got around town fine and had no real issues on the highway until I tried to hold 60+ on hills. It was sluggish off the line, but worked temporarily. On the trail in 4lo the 3.21's caused me to run trails where I wanted to slow crawl too quickly without either riding the clutch or brake.

I added 4.88 Yukon gears with ARB locker in the rear and an Eaton LSD in the front. It is awesome. I have passing power that I never knew existed from the mini van engine. It feels like a completely different vehicle. I recommend running the 35's until you can afford it, but definitely save for the regear.

I am running 35" Nitto's on my 6speed. I can use 6th gear on the highway but for most driving 4th and 5th. I had a 4 cylinder YJ with 8" lift on 35"s so I'm ok with it. Plus I am not a speeder, you could classify me as a 32 year old grandpa. Hell it's a Jeep not a racecar. I am planning however to upgrade to 4.88 gears and lockers within the next month. It works for now though.
