Default How wide can I go??

Hey guys was trying to figure out how wide I could go on two different rim sizes? I've been looking at the Mickey Thompson Classic IIs and found that I'm looking at a 16x8 or a 17x9 (I know they have a 15" also, but don't not interested in that size). I really like the look of the 33x12.50s, but not sure if I can run that wide on a 8" rim? Depending on the tread I go with I'm also looking at 305/70s for these rim sizes also. Pretty sure that it'll be fine on the 17x9, but the 17 is a little more $$.

If anyone running the MT Classic IIs could post up some rim dimensions and tire sizes I would greatly appreciate the help.

You can run 12.50's on a 8in wide rim, I did it on my 35's and now on my 37x13.50's.

was asking more of how wide I can go on an 8" rim or a 9" rim as opposed to backspacing within the flares. Thanks though! I guess I should've been more specific with my question.

12.50's on an 8" wheel will wear down the center a bit faster than if they are on a 9" rim. But on a plus side, you can air down with less of a chance of popping a bead.

run 315/75/16 on a 16x8 (12.5 on an 8), all good so far, but only been on about a week
took forever to wear down the duelers!!!!
anywho, i think the 8" rim is perfect, like others have said, works welll when airing down because it puts a tighter pinch on the bead, and will somehwhat help prevent some rock rash, some.

Many of us run 12.5" wide tires on stock wheels which are 7.5" wide.

I've run chalk tests on my KM2s at several air pressures and there is no crowning even at 40 psi.

I've got the M/T Classic II's at 18X9 and am running 305/60's or 33X12.50. I almost wish I went wih a wheel that was coated though, salt is a PITA.

I went with 9" wide wheels because most tire brands list a 9" wheel for a 35/12.5/17 tire when My 285s where out thats what I am going with
