Stupid fuel consumption!
Help, anybody here have any idea how to diagnose fuel consumption issues.
2008 Rubicon
275/70/R17 Tyres
Towing a 4x4 trailer
78liters used over 274km, this equates to 28l/100km!
Where can I start checking.
First stock, then ran Superchips Towing tune, no difference.

In town driving varies between 19-20l/100km, which is also much heavier than other others I have spoken to.
There's also been almost no difference in consumption since I fitted the slightly larger tyres.
How fast were you driving?
How windy was it?
Was it on flat terrain or in the hills/mountains?
Did you drive with the overdrive off, or did the transmission downshift frequently?
If you were pulling a 3500 lbs trailer (about 1600 kilos), you haven't regeared, you were driving without turning off the overdrive, and if your transmission frequently downshifted to hold speed, 8.5 miles per gallon is completely normal.
To improve gas mileage while towing, you should drive without the overdrive on at a higher rpm and a slower speed.

I was driving between 100 and 120km/h, I tested 100, then 110 then 120, all with pretty much the same result according to the onboard computer.
Edit, the trailer is about half the weight you mention.
Yep I get as low as 9 with TT that has a large frontal area. It can be as high as 12 but if you get a head wind and put you foot in the throttle it drops real fast.
My TT is light but the frontal area is largely a big sail that uses a lot of power to move along. This milage does not matter if its my Jeep or Chevy S10 doing the pulling.
