Default How stiff are the MTR Kevlar?

Hello,

I was pricing some of the Goodyear MTR's (35x12.5) and I saw a review that said because of the stiff sidewall it made the tire very rough and erratic on the road, the customer was not happy.

When I first purchased my current tires they had been inflated to max pressure of something like 40 psi. It was a stiff ride and all over the road, it made for some tense driving at higher speeds. Once I learned to run them at more like 27 - 28 psi the ride was much better and not as scary.

The customer review did not say what pressure he was running, only that it was a pickup truck. I'm wondering if he simply had them over-inflated for a larger tire like that?

Anyone have experience with these, do you find them to be overly stiff?

Thanks in advance,
Beel

I like mine. I bounce around a bit, but as far as I know, that is what Jeeps do. I have 35/70/17 and love them...so far. Only about 1000 miles.

It's really gonna depend on the load range as well. If the guy complaning about a stiff ride has load range E tires, they are going to be very stiff compared to a load range C tire. Also it dependson the Ir pressure too. Most of these bigger tires have a max pressure around 50psi, which is for max load while towing. You really should be around 28-32 psi for a 35" tire. Again it depends on vehicle weight. If you run the 50 psi rated on the sidewall, it'll ride like a tank.

The 35x12.5x17 are load range C so the ride should be fine. Lot of the Kevs are load range E which combined with the Kevlar probably do provide an above average stiff ride even for an MT tire.

Just keep in mind that the lower the load rating, the higher the required air pressure to carry the same load. The max load on the C range tires is 2405 lbs @ 35 psi.

I have noticed that my Goodyear tires with Kevalr are pretty stiff when cold. But when they warm up a bit they get more comfortable on the cracks on the pavement and small chuckholes too. Considering your location you may have to drive a long distance to get them warmed up. I run mine at 31 lbs. That keeps the low pressure indicator light off on the dash and rides much better too.

Default Well

irun mine at 35 on the road. they do run rough at that PSI. on the trail i run them at 10 to 12 lbs. very nice at that psi. now i do run 35/12.5/15. so i do have lots of side wall. i personally like how they ride on the road. even at 35lbs. they run very nice.

Run mine, 35x12.5x17C, at 28psi around town and 11-12psi on the trails. I have around 16-17k miles on mine since october. I love them. The ride is great. They are wearing very well considering the amount of miles I put on them. Just keep them rotated. I let mine go a little longer then I should and when I did a full rotation, front to back and side to side. They were noticeably louder for the next 3-4 tanks of gas, but have now mellowed out again. I love them for the fact that they are so tame on the road. I've already had 6-7 days of top down doors off drives to work and they just have a nice slight hum. I can't wait to get these worn down some more and move up to 37's.
