Trail Grappler and Flashpaq first impressions
first impressions after trail run Saturday:
Grapplers - love these tires. The trails varied from slick rock to mud and these tires had no problem with any of it. These tires had no problem climbing over ledges, the BFG KM seemed to slip and I had to bump to get over stuff. The Grappler cleaned out very well also. In a land of Super Swampers, the Trail Grappler held it's own. (Most of the hardcore club riders in our club use SS's)
Flashpaq - impressed me. This is where the superchips flashpaq came to life. I noticed a HUGE difference in low end power here. Before I would have to search for the right gear to climb or go down a hill. With this I was able to leave in 2nd. Had plenty of power to climb. On steep hills I could just put it in 2nd and crawl up without my foot on the petal. Going downhill, I got much faster engine response so I didn't have to rely on my brakes. I believe 1st gear could get me over about anything without a problem, might take awhile to do it though.
I was not all that impressed with the flashpaq before the trails. Highway mileage went down. (bigger tires) And I didn't feel any marked improvement. The trail is what sold me that I made the right choice in getting it.
I have only tried 87 octane setting so far. I wanted to run a few tanks of gas through before I tried a different setting. The flashpaq might impress me on the road with a higher octane setting.
Overall I am very satisfied with both the Trail Grapplers and the Superchips flashpaq.

I was in Moab last week and one of our guys was running a set of Trail Grapplers on his unlimited TJ. He said he was really impressed with them. I didn't get a chance to ride a long with him though. How do they compare to your last tires sme?
Spartan99 said "Wow people seem generally pleased with the Flashpaq!! Perhaps you didn't notice a mileage gain because you used the 87 tune and not the mileagexs tune, and the larger tires?"
That is what I am thinking also.

I just put 37" tires on mine and the mileage dropped significantly and so did performance. I just ran the flashpaq with the 93 Octane setting and I am very happy with it. I also reprogrammed the Tire Pressure Monitoring system to 26PSI on the highway so the annoying light no longer comes on. Last, I changed the tire size to adjust my speedo calibration. All in all, performance now feels similar to my stock Rubicon. Haven't tried it on the trails yet. Will post feedback on trail settings once I do.
I just changed my octane level to 91. The gas stations around here only have 87, 89 and 93. So I will run 93 octane at this setting for a few tank fulls to see how it goes. I believe I do see some difference in the power at this setting, just not sure yet on how much and if it is worth the extra 20 cents/gal.

I have resided myself to using the 87 octane in the winter months as I am pitching fuel until my JK reaches operating temperatures, and the summer I will run 91 or 93. I haven't ran any prolonged tests, but my thought is the 91 octane probably provides the best value.
