Default Screamin Demon Ignition Coil ? anyone ?

hi all

I am thinking of buying Screamin Demon Ignition Coil

they are claiming that it can open up you plug gaps to .065

quadratec's desciption says that Screamin' Demon Coil has been dyno tested providing 3 more horsepower at 5000 rpm over stock coils.

I know that it is usless at 5k rpm , but this 3.8L engine needs every horsepower availabe

sooo

I already have the granatelli wires

what spark plugs you can recommend to go with instead of the stock plugs ?

which brand of plugs can give the full benefits of the coil ?

It has been my experience that ignition upgrades on today's vehicles yield no discernible improvement, unless the purpose is to replace failing components.

Some people have replaced their plugs with "better" ones, only to have problems. Returning to the OEM type plugs restored good performance.

What you are thinking of doing may be a good option if you are having problems with the stock components.

This is from another post but never the less it should help.

if I remember this correctly, higher octane burns slower and tuners adjust the timing and air/fuel to get a full gas burn in the chamber = HP and better mileage (unless you're heavy footed)

I added Screamin Demon coil and Livewires to mine and it woke up the 3.8 a bit more. won't be a speedster, but it's much better than stock.

Auto, 35's, 4.88, SuperChips 91 tune, CAI, Perfomance Distributor. just got done breaking in gears, mileage seems to be getting better with new gears

Thanks for the postings to this thread because I didn't want to start another one. I've got a stock JK except for an Air Raid CAI but I've been looking at the Screamin Demon also. A tech rep said I can still run 87 gas but have the gap opened to .065. I've only seen that coil packaged from Performance Ignitions with the Livewire plug wires so where did you get the Granetelli wires? Are plug wire brands a "tossup"? I've been catching flak for wanting to spend a "dime" on the 3.8 but I agree, why not replace stock components with aftermarket if the cost difference isn't that much?

I started a thread about this product several months ago. I had someone with the product installed for over a year respond back to me. He liked it and said it smoothed out the engine and acceleration and saw a 1 mpg increase. It's debatable if its worth the money or not, I would definately buy it if i had problems with the stock equipment. I have been running NGk Iridium's in my 08 JKU for over 6 months now and I like them a lot, I also noticed the engine running a little smoother after I installed them. I havent found any evidence either way but I'm pretty sure I can regap the iridium, I just have to make sure I dont touch the electrode at all or its ruined.

realize its been a while since this post, but is that coil pack/wire set worth it? running a banks intake and monster exh, rusty's headers, with banks extreme sport tune from the automind, so i'm already running 93(still getting 19-20mpg with 35's too :] ). but she's starting to get a hesitation and rough idle in the morning

I run a screamin demon with DUI live wires and superchip on 91 octane. Installed it because I had some spark/ignition problems at the time. I'd like to say I notice slight improvement in mpg's, but realistically no improvements to be gained. If you enlarged your plug gaps like SD suggests, might benefit more from that, I didn't expand the gaps.

Default No benefit gained here...

I installed the DUI ignition and wire set almost a year ago. At the time, I also "upgraded" plugs to NGK Iridium plugs gapped to .062... My '10 JK, which had been running beautifully without issue, ran like snot afterward. Replaced the NGK with new OEM plugs, gapped to .055, and performance returned to fighting form. No discernible benefit from the ignition set with the new plugs... but the wires do look pretty sharp ! Note: one of the wires went bad last month and caused misfires on #2... one call to DUI and they sent a new set under warranty. Great CS.
