Default Hitch Cargo Racks? Which one works best with JK?

I was thinking about getting a Hitch Cargo rack, for throwing camping gear, coolers and stuff on when I needed some extra stowage.

The one thing I'm not sure about is if I need to look for one that has some kind of extension so that it clears the rear spare tire?

Anyone have one of these that works well on a JK?

I was looking at one they have at Quadratec...but I just don't want to buy one without seeing it on a Wrangler and find out after the fact that most of the storage area is obstructed by the spare tire.

Here's the one I was looking at the Q.

I measured my Hitch receiver and it currently sticks out 4.5" beyond the rear bumper if that's any help.

I got creative and built my own for the primary use of carrying my whitewater kayak and secondary purpose of cargo. If you want, I can get you some measurements.

If you get one you may want to put reflective tape & or reflectors on the back end of it. I was in Md last month following behind a Jeep w/one that was empty and they're hard to see. (this was in daytime too)

Definitely going to do that. I was thinking of probably getting some kind of trailer lighting kit to mount to it since I already have all the electrical to plug into for my trailer hook up. It would then be kind of like having a mini trailer without having wheels and needing a trailer license.

I found this one that folds up which would be nice to have after I unloaded my gear, to get it out of the way. It looks like it sits pretty far back, and I'm thinking that since my hitch receiver already sticks back beyond my rear bumper by 4.5" I "might" be ok.

I definitely appreciate the offer....but so far none of these that I've looked at really show the length of the shaft dimension....but they all just show the basket dimensions.

Like this is the typical of what they show in regards to dimensions.....which doesn't seem to help me figure out if the front of that basket is going to clear my spare.

I'm going to Cabela's to pick this one up tomorrow http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/te...131&hasJS=true

I'm also getting the 12" side rail kit. I figure I'm going to need to grab a hitch extension to get this out behind the spare for both the JK and the FJ. I'll let you know what I find tomorrow.

Thanks.....and if you could check this one out while you're there.

Someone gave me a $50 gift card from Cabelas awhile back....I might be able to put it to use now.

P.S.
I just read a review on Cabela's site about the one I posted.

"Purchased rack for my Wrangler Unlimited to give the family more room when traveling. It worked out perfectly. I did not have the rattling issues that other customers mentioned and all welds were in place.

The box did arrive fairly beat up, but all components inside were undamaged. Assembly was easy, but agree with other customers prior advice of needing a tork wrench would be nice.

Works well and the ability to place the basket on either side of the neck (to adjust for a low or high ride) was nice.

Would definitely recommend to anyone needing a little extra cargo room."

There's now a number of threads on rear cargo hitch racks. There's over 10 to choose from and everyone recommends they're own, the only differences are cosmetic and price. Many photos in these threads :

If it's in stock, I'll check it out. Mine had to be ordered in, but the side rail kit was already there.

I've got the one that Walmart sells. Its a Masterbilt Hitch Haul. Its 20"x60" and holds 500lbs. I think it was $50.

Works fine.
