I have 34 inch tires would 4.56 or 4.88 gears work better with that tire size

i think auto youd want the higher gearing.

just from asking about gearing for my 35s, i would assume thats how it would pan out. please correct me if my view is skewed.

33 6sp-4.10/4.56
33 auto-4.56/4.88

34 6sp-4.56
34 auto-4.88

35 6sp-4.88
35 auto- 5.13

then again, it also depends on what type of terrain you would offroad in and what your specific driving styles are...

Hey Biff,

Why 5:13s, I'm considering a gear swap mainly for better acceleration from a stop
and rattin' around the city. My only beef with my JK is the sub-par throttle response.
The wife's Exterra launches like a rocket compaired to the Jeep. I know it's not a muscle car, I just want allitle more pep.

I would say if you are going to stay with 34" tires get the 4.88's.

If you think you will ever consider 35" or bigger tires definitely get 5.13's.

It seems like a simple numbers game, but there are allot of factors to consider. The difference between a 34 inch tire and 35 inch is only 1/2 inch. The 1/2" difference doesn't seem like much, but when you add in the width, weight, and tread design as well as what ever percentage is lost through an auto trans, the gearing is important.
For my jeep on 35's, the 5:13 gears put the highway performance almost to what is was like stock, and the city acceleration quicker.

Thanks, I'll probably go with the 5:13s. Seems like 4:88s would be slightly
better than stock with 33" Toyos. The quote I got to do both front and back
was 1400.00, lot of money for a marginal difference.

Thanks again
