Most MFGs (BFG KM2, GY MTR-K, GY DuraTrac, Dick Cepek MC, Interco M16, Interco Truxus MT, Cooper STT, Firestone Dest MT, etc.) spec an 8.5" minimum rim with for that size and do their measured specs on 10" rims. Yokohama's Geolander MT+ is the only one I've seen with an 8" min.

Will the 1/2 inch matter? Probably not. Some people actually run them on the 7.5" stock JK rims without issues. Potentially if you ever had a manufacturer's defect claim on one and they found out the rims were not to spec, they could deny any claim. Running on a skinnier rim can also cause some wear issues, but 1/2" is not a huge amount. I'd look for a rim in a 9" width if it was me though.
