Default Hissing Sound from New Banks CAI

I recently installed a Banks CAI and Monster exhaust. Love the sound and performance gains from these mods and the Superchips. I am now hearing a distinct hissing sound though which is fairly audible in the cab with windows up and much more prominent with them down. Strangely, it seems to come on during acceleration between 1500 and 2200 RPM and then fade out as I level off.

With windows down, you definitely her it from outside the vehicle. With windows up, the sound seems to come through the vents.

Anyone else ever experienced this and/or know what's up? I checked the fittings and everything seems tight.

Is this your first CAI? My dad had one and his did the same thing. I am pretty sure all CAI's do that. I could be wrong though.

That's the sound of the air being sucked into the throttle body when accelerating. Aftermarket intakes do not have internal baffles to reduce that sound like factory intakes do.

That hissing sound is your CAI telling you its working. Youre just hearing the sucking sound

That hissing sound you hear can be silenced by driving through moderately deep water at a realtively high rate of speed. I hope you know I'm kidding.

Thanks, guys. I appreciate the input. I had a CAI on a Z-28 years ago but I'm guessing the V8 just muffled the hiss. Funny...the intake now sounds sort of like the turbo on my wife's GTI.

Side note...the exhaust is pretty loud on the interstate until you start cruising above 70 or 2000RPM. Then it really mellows out. Pleasant surprise as I was just waiting for my wife to make a comment about the noise.

Best thing so far is the extra power on the highway. No more downshifting on a slight incline or into a calm breeze.

A video clip of the intake and exhaust would be nice.

I have the same set up and love it. The sound is normal, just double check your clamps, make sure they are all tight and the hoses are all adequately attached. To have sound from the intact is normal, especially when you really open her up.
Enjoy, I love mine!!

im looking into getting a CAI for mine too. just wondering if all CAI's such as K&N or other brands produce the same hissing sound. i always thought the intake makes the engine sound a bit meaner at least i hope it does when i get mine installed lol
