Have an 09 JKU. Love the jeep, hate the engine. Possible to swap the 3.8 for a cummings diesel? Anyone try this? Couldn't find any threads on diesel swaps and wondering why. Also, if Chrysler can offer a cummings in their dodge 2500 trucks why can't we get one for the JK? Fit? Different emmisions standards for the jeep?

Well there is a inline 4 cylinder 3.8l I think CUMMINS*. Called the 4bt I believe. You could always swap that lol. And I don't think Cummings makes an engine

Lol... Yeah, Cummins.

Is the 4bt the diesel option for JKs in Europe? Anything bigger/better out there?

Any idea what it would it cost (ballpark) to swap from a gas to a diesel?

Humor me here, I don't know much about this heavy of a mod. Figured guys that post to thus thread would be the most knowledgable. Would assume entire electrical would need to be changed (existing computer can't be remapped?) new fuel system... Could I keep the stock transfer case and 6speed trans?

If Im not mistaken and trust me I might be I believe it's a 2.8L crd but it's not a cummins. And I'd love to help you but I'm a newbie to jeepers creepers so there isn't much I could tell you that the swap involves. However I would think going to a diesel is gonna be a whole new world for a stock U.S. Jk because If it's anything like my 2500 I had the fuel is injected at a very high psi so you would need a lift pump and probably injection pump that could supply the fuel at a high enough psi for the engine to function properly. So you would also need all new ECM and associated harnesses, along with a stronger battery to crank that bad boy.

However from what I've seen the 05-07? Jeep
Libertys came with the 2.8L diesel, however it was stopped because they couldn't pass emission standards here. Personally I think you could swap a diesel from a liberty into a wrangler and use the libertys computers with some custom tuning of course but these are all just guesses.

And on the transmission note I'm not sure what either engine will mount up to transmission wise. Sorry wish I could be more help. But I'm anxious to learn too of someone with some knowledge can learn me some lol.

Yeah, there's a diesel option for JKs in Europe. It's an online 4 but not an option here due to emissions. Was just hoping there was something else possible since I know some people have converted YJs to diesels.

The diesel in the JK in Europe AND AUSTRALIA is the VM model.

Its great engine with tons of torque, and when hooked up to an auto, is an awesome combination.

How do I know?
BECAUSE I HAVE ONE!!

If you go to that web site they have photos of the build for the swap into the JK of the diesel and they will do one right now for you if you want or they will have a kit for the diys later.
