Newbie: Street biased wheel help?
I’ve been reading past issues of Jeep magazines and searched the forum. I've learned a lot but haven’t found the information I need. Most folks want to go larger on their tires so there isn’t a lot of “near stock” wheel/tire information.
I have a 2012 Wrangler Unlimited Sahara, which came with aluminum wheels (18 x 7.5 with 6.25” backspacing) and 255/70R Bridgestone Dueler tires. I chose the green colored Wrangler, because the green ones have more horsepower and get better mileage than the other colors. I’ll replace the iffy stock tires after wearing them out with a quality AT tire, but would like to get different wheels now. I understand that the 18’s work better for the street and that is 90% of my mileage so I thought I would stick with that size wheel? The off-roading I do is for fishing and camping and those roads/trails can get muddy or snowy but aren’t hardcore off-roading.
The Black Rock wheels I’m looking at are 18 x 8.5 with 6.0” of backspacing and 30mm offset. I’ve read the definitions of backspace and offset but don’t really understand what they mean from a practical standpoint.
Questions:
1. Would I have any fitment or handling issues with the new wheels?
2. Would my stock tires mount to these rims?
I appreciate any help, thank you!
