Default Removing front dana 44 pinion nut

So the rear came off and went on using my 1/2 breaker bar. The front though...that's completely different! I'm installing TW shafts and need to change over the front pinion flange.

I can not get that thing to budge at all! Any ideas?

I did a search and only found one topic that started into a bearing pre-load discussion. I was able to remove the front tcase output with ease but no joy on the pinion nut.

It looks like the jeep will be rolling around as 2 wheel drive for a few days until i can figure it out!

You need a good compressor with a line to the tank not through the regulator and make sure it can go up to 150psi or so that's how I got it off

Yup, breaker bar is a bad idea. Gotta run an impact gun on it and it should pop right off. IF you don't have access to one, put on the rear d-shaft and drive to your nearest auto or tire shop and toss the mechanic 20 bucks to break it loose and hand tighten it back on.

I'll go pickup an electric one from Sears or somewhere. My air impact was unable to break it loose. I looked up a few online and the electric ones say they are capable of 350 lb/ft to 1200 lb/ft in both directions.

And don't reuse the nut. They are one use only. Go to the dealer and pick up new ones - T-case and axle.

TW's sends two new nuts with the shaft It includes the tcase and the pinion.

I bought a IR231 impact at the recommendation of another member and it backed it out in 5 seconds @ 90psi. My Craftsman didn't even think about breaking it loose set @ 150psi. As usual, it's all about the tools. BTW, the IR ran right around $100. Hope this helps.

I was able to get it loose today using my floor jack. It took me a few tries but it came off! Tightened it back to 160 ft/lbs per the directions that came with TW's driveshaft.

Thanks for the tips!

If you are talking about the front driveshaft transfer case pinion nut, an electric impact didn't fit on mine. I ended up spraying some PB Blaster on it and then it came off with a breaker bar.
