Default 17x9 wheel and tire question

Hope someone has some input for me...I just picked up a set of 17x9 rims (found them on craigslist) for a good price, I've sanded them down and primed and will be painting soon. I wanted to put M/T 33x12.5x17 on the rims and was told that with no lift I would need at least 1.5" spacers...does anyone know if this is true? I wanted to leave suspension stock and maybe just get coil spacers or a leveling kit to make it look good...
So if anyone knows would the tires fit? Will I need the spacers??
Thanks

Are they stock Jeep wheels? Do you know the back spacing on them?

Rubi wheels have 6.25'' back spacing.

Those look like stock wheels of some sort...do they have the correct 5x5 bolt pattern for the JK? They look to have similar backspacing of the stock rims of 6" or so...and you'll want more like 4.5". Are they really 9" wide?

Those look like stock Rubicon rims. If so, they are only 7.5" wide and have backspacing of about 6".

You will rub off road with anything much wider than a 265 width when flexed and turning.. Spacers are recommended.
