Default 17x8 or 17x9 wheels?

Tomorrow I'm ordering my new wheels! Pro comp 7005s, only issue I'm having right now is deciding what size?

for $164.99ea are the:
17x9
offset: -6mm
backspacing: 4.75"
-
for $146.99ea:
17x8
offset: 0mm
backspacing: 4.5"

is there any benefit running a 17x9 over a 17x8?
Also the 18x9 is $164.99 would it be best to go with it? same price as 17x8.

All stock 2011 wranger, going to be running 33s(285/70r17). In the future I'll be upgrading to 35s

I guess it really depends on what tire size you plan to run. Once you have identifed the tires, check the manufacturer's minimum recommended wheel width and make your decision off of that. Also consider any future plans you might have and make sure you are still covered. I would stick to the 17's personally, (just one of many opinions out there) for more sidewall.

x2. Planman is right. I ran both and can verify it. Nice wheel choice by the way.

Thanks for the quick reply & Thanks jeep2007 their pretty sexy looking

I'll be running Pro Comp Xtreame M\T, the 285/70R17(33s) call for a 8" rim, however the 35s which I would like to run in the future call for a 10" rim.

So now my question: is it okay to run a 10" tire on a 8" rim and it look decent? (Shes my DD)

Definitely get the 8s. I've seen 12.50 width tires on 8 inch wheels and they look good. If you get 9 inch wheels, you'll need FAT tires to make it look and perform properly.

8 8 8 !!

I disagree entirely. I have 12.5 on an 8 inch wide tire and I feel like it was a mistake. I would go with a wider rim instead. Having a narrow rim causes the tire to crown in the middle and perform poorly because of the smaller contact patch.

OP, go with the wider rim. It'll be worth it.

I installed the same wheel last month. I went with the 17x9 and am running 35" MTR. REALLY like the matte look on my Jeep! Wheels were hard to find when I ordered them (on backorder from just about everyone, but managed to find 5 on the east coast). With the 35s I had to remove my plastic airdam to prevent rubbing, but with TF 3" lift I can turn to full-lock in both directions without any rub.

Thanks! Spent a year trying to decide on wheels and ended up getting the first ones I really liked after all. Was hoping to get one more Moab trip this year with the new wheels/tires but now that the chairlifts are turning my weekends are spent on snow.
