New JK , Want to at 285/75/16 tires
I just got my 4 door JK on 11-17-07.
It has the 18 inch stock weels on it now.
I have some almost new 285/75/r16 Nitto mud tires that I want to put on it.
Other than the obvious fact that I need 16 inch wheels,
What width and offset should I look for?
Do I need to worry about the sensors?
Do I need any lift? I don't think I need a lift. The tires are less than 33 inches tall. The stock tires are over 32 inches. Less than an inch diference. They will be a bit wider but I know my wheel offset will be important.
Thanks for any info

I believe the stock backspacing is 6.75 and thus allows a 10.5" wide tire without problems. If you go with a 12.5 " tire, you need 4.75" backspace or less. The 33" tires are OK from what I gather without a lift. I just did mine but put a 2.5" spacer kit on mine. I know of some on the forum that put 35" on theirs without a lift while in wait of their lift and it is still OK but not for offroading. I hope this helps.

You guys are confusing Offset and Backspacing.

The numbers quoted are for the Backspacing, not the offset.
Backspacing is the distance the mounting face of the hub is from the far side of the inboard lip of the rim...and the rims are typically about an inch wider than the stated nominal rim width...
IE: A 7.5" x 16" rim is about 8.5" wide...so a backspacing measurement of 6.25" would leave about 2.25" left to the outboard lip.
Offset is related, but its in millimeters instead of inches, just to confuse people....and, it measures the distance from the hub face to the CENTERLINE of the rim...
So if the rim is 8.5" wide...the centerline is at 4.25"
so, ZERO offset would be at 4.25" ....dead center.
Anyway - the more BS, the more tucked into the wheel well the tire will be, and the smaller the arc it will swing through when you turn the wheel, and the fewer things it will therefore rub on, etc.
The proper offset depends upon the rim width....as a wider rim or a narrower rim's centerline will have a different offset, etc.
(Its 25.4 mm/inch if you need it....)

Would a set of 16x10 wheels with a backspace of 4.5 work on a stock Jeep or Would that wheel be too wide?
Should I stay with a 16x8 with backspace of 4.75?
Again, I am using 285/75/16 tires.
Thanks
