Default 4.5'' shocks on 2.5'' of lift?

Is it possible to use shocks meant for a 4.5'' lift on my jeep that has a 2.5'' lift or not? May be a bonehead question to some of you but figured i'd ask haha

Before saying "Nope," what kind of shocks? Most aftermarket shocks fit a specific lift height range. For example, a particular shock may fit a lift between 2.5" and 4".

well..maybe with bigger bumpstops to prevent bottoming out the shocks and coil retainers on the frame side and axle side, you may be able to pull it off. You would be able to get some massive droop. Why do you want to run this setup anyway?

the shocks are RE monotube shocks (part no. RXJ711 and RXJ712), it's not that i want to run this setup per se but my sisters fiancé just purchased the fox piggyback shocks so he was going to give me his old shocks (they're only 6 months old) so that i could save some money.

so would you suggest purchasing the limiting straps and putting them on, or should i just stop being so cheap and save up for shocks that are meant for a 2.5'' lift haha

The question is "what is the extended length of those shocks?"

I see people running an front extended shock lenght of 26.89in without limiting straps.
If i were you i would keep those shocks
buy crown extended breaklines if the lenght of the shock is too long (look up extended length)
buy the spring retainer

Buy the limiting straps for front and RC rear spring retainers. Use them "new" shocks and get some great looking axle pics.
