Default 37" spare on stock carrier

Okay so I got new tires... YAY!!! Now I don't have the fundage to get a new rear bumper and carrier so for now the spare is on the stock tire carrier (with a spacer).
I was told that I "should" be ok and just to be careful if I go wheeling and not take any ledges too hard as to cause it to bounce around and peel away my swing gate.... Any thoughts on this? How dangerous is it really to have that extra weight back there? I've got them on stock rims...

Also what's the most reasonable way to go to get a new tire carrier that will handle it?

Thanks much!

I have the same situation going on right now. I have a 35" on a stock rim with a mbrp spacer. Its doing fine for now. I think I might try the tailgate reinforcement kit too, to strengthen it up. By this summer I plan on riding on 37s with the same setup as i can not afford the carrier yet either. From what i have read and gathered, from mbrp also, this set up should be ok as you said. Maybe not the best, or a long term solution, but do-able for now

Yikes; I wouldn't do it, but that's just me. People have reported busted welds with 35s. Just leave it off (remove the stock tire carrier, so it looks cleaner), and throw it in the back when you go off road. Oh, if you have a 2 door, then you probably can't do that. I've seen (read) others that will Bly put it on back when they off road. That might be an option for you (obviously you'd leave the tire carrier installed for this scenario).

I,ve got a 35" tire on a stock carrier and everybody told me that i should,nt do that.
Well it,s been on there going on 3 years and i have had no problems at all and i,m wheeling alot.
Same boat as you no funds for the tire carrier i want.
So i,ll just keep running it till i find a great deal on a tire carrier

I ran a 37 on the stock carrier for 2wks. Ran a rachet strap around it and my tailgate to hold it tight. Then I backed into a tree and bent my tailgate. Put a bumper/carrier on the next week.

take out backseat if it's a 2 door and just throw it in the back for wheeling! that's what I'm gonna do when I get 35's!
