Default Slapping???

2010 jku auto sport. When accelerating and RPMs get to 4000-4200 there is a slapping noise coming from the engine bay. Took it to the dealership 3 times and they told me it was a heat shield and that I was border line abusive on it when accelerating. (I don't drive that way all the time). So they "tightened" my loose heat shield and it still makes the noise. Any ideas?? It sounds like a belt tensioner not keeping tension on the belt and it's slapping.

Borderline abusive? How do they measure that? My question is that if it can't handle 4000 rpm, how does it enter on a freeway?

My 12 does it at 2800-3200 rpms during light acceleration , to me it sounds like a valve/rocker problem. And I can only here it with the doors off.

I don't have a '12 but my 07 makes a similar noise and its just like you said..valvetrain noise.

Op since you have an auto I would find a nice quite road and put it in 1st gear...it should allow you to get up in the rpm range while still moving slow...maybe you'll be able to hear it better to help diagnose

Check out this thread, you are not the only one to have problems with the heat shield. As for the dealership..... I found a decent garage, and take my jeep there all the time now. Thge only thing I will take my rig to a dodge dealership for, is warranty work. When someone tries to charge you $600 for a front and rear diff fluid change..... flags go up fast.
Good luck with a fix.

I took mine in to Bertera dodge in west Springfield MA. And it was the service manager that said it was border abusive so after 3 times and it still doing it I will be going to another dealership for the warranty work. I will keep in mind the valve and head issue too and mention it too them. Thanks for the help on this one

Bertera in West Springfield is where I sold my 07 JK Sahara and Bought my 12 JK Sahara and I must say they are all scumbags from the sales people to the service department. Avoid that place like the plague.

I'm sorry, but if a petrol engine can't rev to 4k, it shouldn't be in use. And I'm pretty sure /chrysler can't do anything about "abusive" driving...
