Intermitant cranking issue
Good Morning Forum!
On my Automatic 2008 Jeep it periodically will not crank. I have to turn the ignition several times to get the Jeep to start.
It goes crank, then nothing. No clicking or anything. It's like fuels not getting to the engine or something.
It was at the dealer for an oil change and they found no issues. It happened this morning and as soon as I got the camera out to record the issue the Jeep started.
I'm at a loss. I'm going to check the filter and spark plugs after work.
Any input?
/Man Card - The stealership had a 4 oil changes for $42 promotion.

To add to the other advice, there is also the grounding issue to consider. Some JK's seem to have bad grounds within the engine bay. I'm not familiar with exactly what - but I think they benefit from either another engine to chassis ground, or negative to chassis ground. Or both. A search (or other members chiming in) should be able to give more details.

Along with the ideas already mentioned, and seeing that you have an auto, there is a known issue with the "Park/Neutral" switch under the centre console sticking and causing the issue you speak of. Mine does it a few times a year, a shift from park to neutral and back before turning the key again fixes it for me.

Just so you know, there is no park/neutral switch in the console.
It's a more complicated range sensor inside the transmission.

Okay, I try the park/neutral work around. However, that is not the corrective action to root cause. Checking electrical issues always seemed like chasing a ghost for me. So far I've always been able to start the car, I'm just afraid if I go offloading I don't wanna get stuck.

If mine ever becomes a major issue it looks to be a more complicated and expensive repair than I realized.
