Default Stopping rear end squatting/softness

Hey guys,

Just got an '08 JK Unlimited with the lift and tires already on. however when I offroad or even come off a curb, the rear really bounces and rubs the tire. I've had Jeeps before, this just seem unusually "squishy".
Best plan to firm it up......stiffer shocks or springs. Or both?

Do you know how many miles are on the shocks? What brand lift/shocks does it have? Does it have a noticable squat when sitting on level ground? Could be a number of things, most likely the prior owner didn't like hard shocks, and went with something more plyable. More likely than not, your springs are fine in the rear, unless said prior owner towed alot. The front will generally be the first to over stress a spring because most of your weight is up front.

Where is the tire rubbing? What size tires and how much lift? Bounce is usually bad shocks.

Sagging is soft springs. Some springs could be too soft and lead to sagging with a little weight.

I had similar problem, it was the hydro shocks I installed with my BDS lift. I installed bilstien 5100 and that fixed the problem. Firmed the ride up and handling improved with much less body roll.

Thanks guys. I figured it was a combo of both. still going through the Jeep to figure out exactly what was put on lift wise too. It doesnt look like suspension has been changed any....so i'm thinking it's got a body lift.

Take a look at the body pucks. Those are easy to spot, even stock. Mine is stock on the body, and my "eyeball ruler" says they are about 1-1.25" tall stock. Check your shocks, and cross reference the number on the back of the shock. Also, look to see if you have a coil spacer on your coils, again super easy to spot, and they are pretty notorious for wearing out early. Those are the easiest to modify, and a lot of folks do just that. Good luck with tracking down your squishy-ness!

Im gonna check all those points if I ever get out of work before dark today!
Again, thanks for all the suggestions.
I looked at the springs and saw no spacers the other day. Of course they could be taller springs but hard to tell.
I'll get some shots of some components maybe you guys and your keen eyes can spot some.
First JK so I'm
Learning!

Ok guys, after punching in some serial numbers off the shocks it appears this is a Skyjacker lift. Probably a 2.5" lift.
The previous owner took all stickers off all the aftermarket components so it's a bit of a research project

You have aftermarket springs, I don't feel that's your problem. I think it's the hydro shocks. Look into some gas mono tube types.

Also you might never have a problem but I would look into replacing your rear track bar relocation bracket. They are notorious for snapping factory welds at track bar axel bracket.
