I did mine with ALLMIGHTYCRASH's help. Parts alone is probably about equal to the Ebay snork (12" K&N) and with labor costs it is worth more than an AEV (alot of sanding) but the other SNORKEL guys are the most envious... mine is obviously beefier, matched to the JK contours better, infinately modifiable/adjustable for future mods, and WASNT IN THE CATALOG!

There hasnt been a tree that this thing couldnt handle so far, but it had some rock rash i have to rattle can bedliner over... its 100% modular and TOTALLY REBUILDABLE.

Look over ALLMIGHTYCRASH's write up, and come check mine out- if youve never worked with fiberglass it will be a great thing to learn!

BTW the cost could be kept down by using an oem filter/drop in, and since its modular you can rock it PVC style and take it off to prep and paint it... without the aesthetic mods (epoxy, fiberglass wrap, sandpaper, bedliner, mounting plate, stainless hardware) the costs drop considerably... but that makes the difference between a custom fab snork and a PVC POS.

I am thinking about making one out of PVC, but go through the hood right above the air box. Have a short and a long pipe with threads on the bottom end for easy take-off.
What do you think?

Default Food for thought...

You know how Gran Nationals, M3's and M5's, and the Turbo Taurus all have FUNCTIONAL side vents? THats because those are LOW PRESSURE areas and ports there will SUCK air out of the engine compartment. I had the pipe removed for sanding and drove like that on the highway- I GOT 12MPG and it was struggling up hills. Where as with my snorkel ON I get about 22mpg AVG on flat highways.

Mine is on the side of the fender- a LOW PRESSURE area. I actually think THAT PORTION of the hood is a HIGH pressure area, and that is how COWL INDUCTION hoods work.

Mine is PVC just finished with fiberglass to make the contours conform, and bed liner. NO ONE believes it is PVC until I pop the hood. I just slip it in the fender hole and use a set screw. It is heavy, and supported by my RR headlight relocation bracket/mirror like Crash's.
