Default Replacing my second axle shaft

front right (passenger), just seem to be smoking these shafts. they dry up and seize. Is there a better brand and is there a complete over haul I can do on my axles while I'm in there? should i do the gears and is there a package that replaces everything inside the dana 44s?

Thare are a bunch of upgrade shafts available. Can you give more info on your problem? Maybe all you need is an upgraded seal kit. What size tires etc..

I'm running 35's on a stock setup, 1.75" daystar spacers, making a terrible clunking popping sound at full turn.

Try RCV shafts, they are pricey but I think they have a "you break it we replace it" warranty.

I've had one seize too (at 23K miles), but was covered under the Lifetime warranty. If I had to buy, i'd go with RCV too - bullet proof and should last forever.

that's exactly what I was looking for. Are the shafts supposed to be greased at intervals?

cant grease the shaft, but some u-joints are greasable. but from what i've heard, people try to avoid greasable joints because they are weaker. but i cant speak from experience

I snapped the passenger side axle shaft on my D30. I looked at RCV but the price was a little more than I could justify. I ordered the Ten Factory chromoly axle shaft set and am very happy. Not RCV's but far better than stock.

Just remember that going with stronger shafts makes something else your weak point. People that do rcv shafts basically have shafts they never have to worry about. But now something else has to give under extreme pressure. Most likely your gears will be that weak point especially in a d30.

Some people have their gears cryo'd when regearing to help strengthen them but then something else becomes the weak point. Probably the driveshaft.

There are trade offs with everything you do. Going with a set of chromoly would be a great option. Stronger than stock but probably balances out weak spot so it is not definitely your gears that blow up.

First,if you're playing in water and mud often, serviceing your under carriage is a must.Spicer makes a greaseable u-joint,that's what i run with no problems
