I hope this is the correct thread for this. if not, Mod please move it for me.

I have a 07 JKU X that went into the dealer for a cracked exhaust manifold back in August. While it was in there, Jeep decided to take care of a couple of recalls. Nothing big- Fender liner, Tow hitch, brake line re-location and possible Trans oil leak. They asked if i wanted them taken care of while they had it. I agreed as long as it was nothing major.

Well, we pick up the jeep and notice it starting to shift weird. It is an auto by the way. It will decelerate hesitate and then shift hard into 2nd. and then the same going into 4th. I take it back to the dealer the next day and asked what they did to my jeep. They said nothing of course. I said it didn't shift like this before and now it is. long story short, they flashed the computer and said it was fixed. I drove it home and it seemed fine. About a week later it started to do it again. If you drive it like grandma it shifts bad, if you drive it like your in a big hurry it shifts a lot better (almost normal). I found another dealer to take it to that is more offroad friendly they said it seemed like the tranny has some issues. they did a few things to it and i drove it home and it seemed fine. Well after a week or so, it's starting to shift bad again. We go back and fourth like this for about a month.

Fast forward to today, it's back in the shop again for 3 days now. I just got a call from them asking me where is my programmer. I said it's in the glove box. I asked why and they responded that maybe the new update that was done back in august may be more like the new unbreakable program in the new jeeps and the programmer may be messing up the program. They are going to return my jeep to full stock setting, take of the 37's and put on some 255 donuts. Then they will drive it to see if the tranny still shifts poorly.

Has anyone else had their jeeps computers flashed in the last few months? Does anyone have any idea whats wrong with it?

Thanks for the help in advance.

No clue on latest computer flash but was wondering if you returned your vehicle to stock before bringing it to dealer or did you still have a tune installed when the flashed it? Because you should always return your vehicle to stock settings before seeing the dealer for 2 reasons. First, running a programmer isn't exactly warranty friendly. Some dealers can even use it as an excuse to cancel your lifetime powertrain warranty. So NEVER let the dealer know you are using a programmer. Second, most programmers like Superchips will be bricked if the dealer flashes the computer with a tune installed. It will be useless. So what programmer are you using?

Hello MpKelley,

I had returned it to stock before dropping it off. It was a Procomp Programmer. I first thought it didn't return to stock all the way. So I programmed it again and then returned it to stock. I have since purchased a Superchip Flashpaq and programmed it. It did the same thing with the new programmer as well. I then returned it back to stock before dropping it off at the new dealer.
This dealer is way friendly to 4 wheelers. They suggested I always leave the program in the jeep and they will return it to stock for any updates in the future.

Thanks for chiming in.

X2. You should always return it to stock and don't even let them know you have a programmer. That way they can't blame the problem on it

It was returned to stock before taking it in the first time.

If the new flash is casuing issues with your Superchips then you would get a failed attempt at loading the tune. Maybe try updating your tuner online for the lastest firmware and see if that helps. If the Jeep is taking the tune but it is still feeling unresponseive, then you have a different issue, Perhaps what you are feeling is the way its supposed to drive without a cracked manifold!

I assume you and the dealer checked the tranny fluid levels? My Rubi was having major issues with it slipping out of gear on steep hills when off-roading. After several trips to the dealer and getting the "the Jeep isn;t supposed to go that steep", I decided to tear into my transmission sump pan and I found that my filter was cracked. Replaced it and its fine. Probably different from your issue but figured I would suggest at least checking the fluid levels.

I did update the tuner when I bought it off a member here. We didn't have this issue before going in the first time. It feels like you push in the clutch( which it doesn't have) and then let go of it quickly and it snaps your head backwards. I think it may be a torque converter issue. And yes, the fluids are all up to the correct line. This jeep only have 52k miles on it and has never had any issues before the cracked exhaust manifold and now the automatic transmission shifting from 1st to 2nd and 3rd to 4th.

Update:::

I just picked it up from the dealer. They put on the stock tires and re-flashed the PCM and drove it around with no shifting issues. I drove it home from the dealer (25 miles) and it started up again. It is a softer shift, but you can feel it decelerate and then shift. No programmer installed. WTF?
Any ideas? Somebody must be a mopar mechanic or transmission mechanic on here. Help please.

Looks really silly with the stock tires on it.
