Default Help me solve my stupidity...

Ok my situation is I signed up for an organized ride and didn't realize until I received my packet that you either need to be locked or limited slip.

Since I have a 2012 JK Sport I have neither. So my whole plan was to add lockers when re-gearing sometime down the road. Now my situation calls for me to do something. I am really not in a position to set things up how I really want right now.

So my thought is getting a Aussie Locker for my nice and strong Dana 30 in the front and not worry about the rear until I am in a position to make the changes I want to.

So does anybody have experience with running a Aussie up front and open in the rear? Or something similar. If so how is it, any problems etc.? I know the 30 isn't the best option to lock, but I tend to baby things a little so I am not worried about too much skinny...

What do you guys think?

So Your saying, You don't have the Trac-Loc option.
"Trac-Loc" is jeep's way of saying "limited slip differential.

The only stupid questions are the ones you don't ask.

If you're going to put a locker in, any type, the rear is the best location if you have to choose one. If you're not totally locked into this trip, I'd wait until I could do it right and get the locker(s) you really want, like a selective one. Don't just put something in you really don't want just to go on this organized ride. There will be plenty of trips in the future. My 2 cents.

As far as I know that was an option that I didn't have.

I agree, that is why I was thinking that something like an Aussie up front may be a good solution because I could leave it up front without risk of too much damage until I replace the 30 with something else down the road.

I just didn't want to throw a detroit / limited slip in the rear when I will probably take it out in the next six months or so. I am already $400 into this organized ride.

If I was that close to doing it anyway, I'd breakout the Visa and get started early. There are plenty of 12 month promos out there. My 2 cent.

If you are looking for a cheap solution, you could just weld the spider gears together in the rear.

Your factory "Command-Trac 4WD system", standard on your Jeep, is more capable than a limited slip.
It acts "similar" to lockers, but is not a substitute.

Maybe they are referring to old school without the electronic Brake Lock Differentials (BLD)? Which is Jeeps "Command-Trac 4WD system".

Maybe you can contact them?
