Default Lockers: Air or Electric?

I'm looking to get a selectable locker for my rear D44 in a '12 JKU Sport. I already have a Rubi D44 front, so have an OEM Electric locker.

I'm leaning towards ARB, but like the price of an electric like Eaton. They end up being about the same price, but the ARB would require OBA which I don't have. So that would add around $600 - $700. This added cost would set me back for maybe a few months unless I do well in Vegas this weekend.

If I do the Eaton, I can afford it RIGHT NOW and I'm not a patient person... I've also heard the Eaton doesn't work as well as an ARB would because of the 2 pin design. I want to do this right the first time and not regret it.

I made a few calls to shops today. One guy told me he's taken more ARB's out than he's putting in and recommended the Eaton. Also I ran a trail 2 weeks ago and one guy had an air leak so his ARB wasn't working.

What are you running?

I voted electric because it sounds like you want it now. There are benefits to both as you mentioned. ARBs are great and I think more people love them than hate them and the same goes for Eaton. Both would be a great locker, I would do the Eaton because you have an electric in the front and I like things to be the same good luck in your choice.

6-700 for oba? You can get the arb compressor and mounting bracket and some other stuff for something like $330 from Northridge then you have the ability to air up at the end of the trail

I vote electronic locker.... Too much $ for the air system and then when shifting seasons from winter to summer and summer to winter ubrun the risk of getting condensation in the air lines and if it's cold that will freeze and BANG ur air lockers won't work cuz of frozen lines... I vote electric

Why not get a rubi rear axle used to match the front. I picked up one for 900 then swap it out and sell your existing one for a few hundred too.

I'm also running an ARB up front with no problems. Both work great but the ARB engages a bit quicker and won't stick disengaging like the elocker. As for the air lines run them with the brake lines and you should not have any issues. Even if you do ARB makes a tool less splice too.

Electric for me, I'll be going this route. Just seems to be more reliable...just my opinion from the outside looking in, since I don't have experience with either yet.

Default Locker

I have the Eaton E-Locker in the rear of my 09 JKU and have had it for years. Always locks, no delay, and unless you have a completely dead battery, it's going to work. I don't like air engaged units due to too many chances of failure happening (air line leak, compressor failure, not to mention the cost of the compressor) I have heard all the reasons not to go with the E-Locker and I have never seen one of them. I'm very happy with my unit.
