jk unit bearing "reassignment"
Please forgive me if this is the wrong area for this posting.. I recently did a hub conversion on my'07 sahara and I now have a perfectly good set of unit bearings laying around. Problem is I also have a perfectly good light-duty utility trailer I use for camping that I'd love to fit bigger tires on as well as a wider axle setup. Anyone see a reason why I couldnt fab a whole new axle using the old unit bearings from my hub conversion?
I don't know about the unit bearings, but you could find an old 3/4 ton D44 out of a dodge or like truck literally for free in some places. I have a friend here in corpus that finds em all the time and it seems that would be a better rout to go in case things break and what not. Update however if you do use the unit bearings.
People do it all the time my father-in-law made one out of an old Willy's pick bed and axle. The upside is spares from the trailer in a pinch (assuming it'll be an off road trailer) and the downside is the extra weight. Good luck and show us how it turns out if you end up going that route!
