Death wobble with lift
Spent all weekend putting in the rough country 6 inch lift. everything went fine but the pitman arm. count not get it tp come out. still needed to drive the jeep to work today and it wont go over 30 with out death wobble. I knwo i need to get the pitman arm off and replaced plan on doing that this afternoon. all the bolts are tight and i know it need a alignment ( will do when i take it in for the pitman arm). The trackbar is tight and used new bolts. Is there anything else that would cause the death wobble with the lift. Im thinking im missing something here. Any help would be great.
First off I wouldn't do the pitman arm I'd do the drag link flip. Everyone on here told me to do it this way so I did and it was much easier. Also as far as your death wobble problem search on the forum for Planmans death wobble write up. If you follow and do EVERYTHING he tells you to do you should fix the problem. Good luck!

As for the DW, go over Planman's write up. Mine turned out to be the axle side trackbar mount. The holes were ovaled out and I had to weld up a grade 8 washer to each side.
When I put the bracket in it was fine. Everything was tight and I had to hammer it a bit to get the holes to line up. I think its the pitman ARM. I don't know how the ride is yet. I don't want to break anything untill I get the pitman ARM fixed.
Thanks for the info guys. I found the problem. The old pitman arm is causing the ball joint for the steering on the axle side to shift too much. so the new piman arm and a alignment will fix all. And yes that was a awesome post on how to fix it.
However while your at it I highly recommend getting a draglink flip kit since it will come with a new draglink anyway.
6" of lift is a lot of lift. I have 4" and I battled DW for at least six months. Dropping the pitman arm MAY correct the angles however it will also put WAY more stress on your steering box. I can only assume that your are running much larger tires than stock (hence 6" lift) which is already stressing the steering box. Putting additional stress on the steering box with the pitman arm would end in steering box failure. With 6" of lift the only real way to fix your steering angles is to flip the drag link and raise the trackbar.
Many companies offer this at reasonable prices, poly performance, teraflex, rock krawler, off road evo, rubicon express, JKS, clayton.......etc etc
The way I see it, since I have been down this road. Is you can pay for a drag link flip kit now and fix the problem properly. Or put the drop pitman arm on now, destroy your steering box, buy a new steering box and a draglink flip kit to finally fix the problem.
Also, did your kit come with an adjustable track bar?

Yeah. I know that ball joint is shot. If its that lose then I need a new one. I'm running 35s so yes bigger tires. The flip kit sounds good. Think ill order one with the next paycheck. And track bar is adjustable. It's the RC 6 lift. The track bar is tight as can be. Right where it should be. I got take it to firestone ( lifetime alignments, can't go wrong with that). They said they will try to get the stock arm off and align it also. We will see what happens and go from there. Again to all thanks for the info. First time I have ever done something like this. It's all a learning cycle. It was fun. I'll admit that.
