37's and Dana 30
Has anyone had experience with 37's on a stock Dana 30 axle with 3.73 gears? If so, did it last or did they fail pretty quick? I am in Southwest Florida, so there aren't many places to wheel that are very demanding. Mostly just sand and mud. I invested in the PureJeep knuckle gusset kit, which involves a whole axle truss. Also, I know Planman has a write up in what it would take to run 37's on a 2-door. If anyone has that link it would be appreciated. My current set-up is a 4" lift kit and flat fenders. I hope this works. Thanks in advance.
kind of a question that can/should be answered in different parts:
#1- yes you can run 37s on a 30 without failure.
#2- gears depend on your motor - old 3.8l and i would run 4.88s as to not completely kill all you power and gas mileage. new 3.6l and 4.10s will be perfect. i would do either as keeping your current will not be fun! possible, but not fun...
#3 - mud and sand put a lot of stress on your parts, so if/when wheelin, just be easy and dont make hard turns.
#4 - gusset at the very least and a truss or sleeve is just extra protection.
#5 - 4" of lift and flats are fine. just make sure you have proper bumps and breaklines for your 37s.

Good Luck and Happy Wheelin'.

As long as you wheel smart 37's on a D30 can go and last a long way. I've seen guys shatter D44 ring and pinions with 35's and 37's as well as D30's. It's more about finesse than pedal mashing when off-road.
Im currently running a teraflex 2.5 inch budget boost (swapping to rk 2.5 inch coils soon), 1 inch body lift, trimmed fenders, trimmed pinch seam, front stubby bumper, rear tire carrier, adjusted my steering stops, and a super chips tuner with my 37x13.5 toyos. I have an 08 2 door with 3.73 gears on the dana 30. If I didn't have major hills here in northern NJ I probably would not be regearing, but going to 4.88s soon along with EVO sleeves and gussets. I turn off overdrive everytime i hop in, and there is a certain method to gassing it to avoid hitting 4k rpms. The only time it bothers me is when im going uphill.
If i were you, get the 37s and then see if you want to regear. Even if you do, you will be able to ride on them for a little bit. In regards to your axle holding up, it will be fine if you don't treat it like a piece of junk offroad

Running GY 37s with stock axles and 3.73 gearing, no issues at all. No sleeves or gussets. Use Superchips and have adequate power on highway and on the trail. I'm a careful off roader and finesse over things vs smash and conquer.
The people breaking everything with 37s on stock axles do so from their own poor driving/wheeling habits. Fact!

I have been running my setup for over a year. Eco gussets, 5:13s and automatic for my 2011 JK.
I am also in South Florida. Several trips out to the Glades and wherever I can pop off road. I am waiting, but it hasn't broke yet.

I would absolutely gusset at minimum... The larger tires give tons of leverage on the axle C's. I bent my axle on 35's, just from pot holes and light New England trails... Cheap insurance & assurance...
