Question Evaluating the pros and cons of different lift kits

Hi all,

Fairly new to the board, been lurking a while and reading a lot. I have done a search and can't find exactly what I am looking for, but if this topic has been done before, then apologies, and please direct me to the thread.

What are some of the things you look for when evaluating one lift kit over another?

And, if you are looking at a Jeep that has already been lifted, (i.e. at a dealer) what sre some of the things to look out for?

First: Welcome

And the can of worms is opening. I only say this because every has opinons that will go against other people opinions. What I did was look in 4 Wheel magazines when they did a shoot out of the different lift kits. Personally I went with Black Diamond because it was rated the best in my price range.

Welcome!! Now what type of kit are you looking for? Or more specific what do you want in your kit?

Personally I want a complete kit. When I say kit I mean all of the control arms as well as adjustable track bars. That does get expensive.

I am thinking of the 2.5" TF BB first, with a 1" body lift to run 33s or maybe 35s.

But the reason I started the thread was because some kits have adjustable track bars, some have the rebuildable Heim joints, etc etc. When I get to the point where I want to do a real lift where I replace some or all of the components, I want to know how to chose a mid-priced lift.

I mean, going full-bore for a Rubicon Express or Full Traction Ultimate lift are obviously great choices, but are also for the most amount of money. I guess what I am looking for are tips for how to evaluate what "middle of the road" kit to go with eventually, based on features - you know, not budget but not top of the line either.

EDIT:
PS I am not opposed to discussing the pros and cons of any catagory of kit - I figure in the long run, it all ends up as shared knowledge.

I have a RE 2"BB and a 1" BL. I'm looking at the 4" Superlift because of the price. as time goes by u can add rear track bar, uppers and lowers as you see fit. For the price it seems to give you the max lift, cheapest price and you can add the others as your budget allows. Alot of jeepers on here run that kit and the positive feedback on here far outweighs the negative. That's the route I'm planning to go anyway. Alot of them are still running stock shafts on the four drs also. Thats one thing I'm definately gonna upgrade as budget allows or I have to cause I blow it
