I have an M416 that i was planning on building but my old 4x6 trailer was always too small for a family of 5. We were always running out of room when we went out camping (it doesn't help that the wife wants to bring everything, including the kitchen sink).

I have an option to pick up a M101 3/4 ton. I would like to hear from the people who have built both and help steer me in the right direction.

 

I just finished my M101. Looks great, tows great, and tons of room. Swapped out the axle and put on matching wheels.

Why did you swap out the axle? Where did you get the axle and how much was it? I have matching AEV wheels and i am leaning on going with the 101. I will then sell the 416 that i have.

 

Swapped the axle to reduce weight and have hubs to fit same bolt pattern on jeep so spare would work on jeep and trailer if needed. Bought 3" axle so I could use original springs and mounting hardware. You can easily knock off lower shock mounts and use on new axle. Kept old spring but added new Monroe shocks. Bought axle from place in NH. Think it's called Neuro. Paid about 250 inc hubs and shipping. The original axle wheels and brake system probably weighs few hundred pounds more then new axle set up.

 

Do you remember the specifics? Size or the stock number from Nuera?

Yes and Yes, One of the owners use to work at custom car audio in Plaistow many years ago when i had them hook up my MontySS. I've been in a couple of times. I had them put a remote starter in my Commander

 

They do good work. I drive my cars from RI just so they can work on them. Gotta bring my MR2
Up again soon.

M101a has hand brakes which in my opinion are not needed. The other versions of M101 trailers have surge brakes. It was a fun build and still many ideas to do.
