Default Aluminum vs. Steel Fenders

Pros and cons to either of these? Trying to figure out what I should get. What are the reasons for why people decide to go for either of the two?

IMO its about weight and durability. Steel fenders are more durable but heavier. I am also undecided on which one's I will get. I know it will be PSC when I do! Good luck in your decision.

No question in my mind. Go steel all the way. Aluminum is dis-similar metals touching which is never a good thing. Steel is much stronger. Steel is very easy to repair with any old backyard welder. If you want to save weight leave the plastic ones on or buy bushwhackers.

I went through the same process a month ago. I went steel because the weight difference is not dramatic enough to sacrifice the strength loss. The aluminum is more likely to deform on contact. Some will say that the flare should deform so the body panels won't but when installed correctly it is my opinion that the force needed to bend a body panel would be far greater than what is needed bend the aluminum flares. So, I went steel.

That's 92 lbs. that's less than a passenger.

92 lbs,, plus a passenger, plus all your gear,, plus all your other mods,, it adds up. But i see your point. re; body deforming,,, I can tell you the aluminum fenders are thick and strong!! when tightening them down they puled my body out of alignment with the grill before they even thought about bending.

I can certainly see your points as well. Like 99% of jeep mods it comes down to preference, wheeling style, terrain, and on and on. They are both great options, just have to make a choice.

I have the PSC aluminum flares and they have proven to be plenty strong. I have bashed them repeatedly and have yet to deform one. I really believe that for me to damage one it would damage the body of my Jeep which IMO steel would do the same thing. Another reason I chose aluminum is that I don't need to worry about rust! Always remember oz's=lb's and with our Jeeps every little bit helps.
