Default Winch control relocation.

I posted this thread in the electrical section (after doing an extensive search), but got little response there.

So, I'm hoping with the higher rate of traffic this section receives, I get more feedback.

I'm planning on moving the control module for my warn m8000 into the engine compartment. Have any of you taken this same step? If so, where did you relocate your winch controls? Have any of you made efforts to reduce the size of the control box as well? Ideally I'd like to actually relocate the remote jack into the cab of my JK. Are there any issues or pitfalls with going this route I should be aware of?

Well hopefully some members with experience in this will take time from the numerous, redundant, "help me pick my lift" threads to chime in.

Otherwise it won't be very interesting. >.>

The box with the solenoids in it can be relocated by extending the wires to where ever you want to put it. Just use the same or heavier gauge wire.
Just make sure you can get your winch controller plugged in unless you have a wireless remote.
I usually take that box apart and seal it up with black gasket maker depending on which type winch I'm installing.

Sealing the box is a great tip! Thanks for that. I actually plan to remove the relays from the box and reduce its footprint. And further extend the control jack into the cabin.

Also, shout out to a fellow MS jeeper! I know a few folks up senatobia way.

I just installed the Zeon 10 and did this. Removed the relay from the housing and mounted it next to the battery. Used the same control (small) wires and control cable mount right next to it and mounted the wireless remote control box under the dash behind the glove box. I was able to purchase the needed cable from a local welding shop. Suggest you don't get your cable from Home Depot or Lowes, that stuff just doesn't want to bend. Use a good wire loom for protection on all cables except the ground. Remember there are no fuses..

Thanks chuck. That is exactly the type of info I'm looking for!

Any chance of getting some pictures of your work?

Also, I had considered using battery cable leads as extensions. Is this a good idea or no?

Awesome work, JK-1! That gives me a lot of ideas for mounting options and saves me time knowing where not to mount.

It seems as though the remote control option would be cleanest and most simple. Not to mention versatile.

Thanks for sharing your insights on this. Much obliged!
