Default Transfer Case & LS Swaps

Thinking of changing directions on my build and going all in for an LS swap. Anyone have any first hand experience with an LS swap, and if so, what transfer case you did you go with and if it uses an adapter, what adapter are you using? Are you happy with it? Seems the LS swap is pretty reliable at this point, so and I've found a good source for a complete motor, but need to figure out the rest of the drivetrain parts to gather.

Also wondering what a never used 241 4:1 Transfer Case goes for these days? Thinking might want to go for an Atlas instead if it works well with the LS plans, so I'm pondering selling this to help fund things.

Right now, you cant mate the rubi case to the 6L80 so you would have to get a non rubi 241 transfer case or an Atlas.

Used Rubi transfer cases are going for about a grand right now so if yours is brand spankin new, you may be able to command a little more than that.

Thanks for the info, I saw the atlas was around the $3k mark, plus, I'm assuming replacement driveshafts from what I've read ($1k), but does that mate right up to the ls trans or is the only option to use an adapter? (I'm curious about the adapter route, worried about it's dependability, given how much money is being invested.)

No adapter, both transfer cases will bolt right up the 6l80 but I think you need to modify the 241 to do so.

Good to know...I'm shocked they bolt right up...I would think they wouldn't matchup bolt-wise. Guess I'm gonna be in the market for an Atlas now...

The atlas does bolt right up but take note that the trans does need to have a 4wd tail housing. If you are sourcing from a junk yard look for a Trail Blazer SS that is 4 wheel drive.

If you do the swap, post up something in the FS section. Surely someone here with a JK sport would swap for your 4:1. That's what i did.

I mispoke and wanted to correct myself. I am pretty sure you can bolt an Atlas without an adapter but using the 241 will require using an adapter. More info can be found here: Transfer Case Adapter -

I am sorry for posting incorrect information originally.

As of right now, I already have a sport/x model jeep, as well as a brand new 241 4:1 tcase I picked up along the way that has never been installed, so I'll probably post that up for sale in the very near future, but don't really need an swapping unless someone wants to downgrade from an Atlas (not holding my breath lol)

That's what I've been gathering too. I'm glad, for what an Atlas runs, it won't need adapted. I'd question the longevity and durability of one with an adapter, so I'm relieved that with a price tag like that the Atlas bolts right up. Thank you and JKbender for the tips and info thus far...going to be a long fun project ;-)
