Default Tail Light Flip Issue.

I flipped the tail light housings to place the reverse light on top of the brake light to have a free / 2 minute mod today. Only problem I have with it is that the housings no longer sit flush with the body. I may just add some weather proofing strips to fill the hole. Has anyone found a different solution.Click image for larger version

I'm not being critical, just out of curiosity, why flip them?

I saw it in the low cost mod section and thought I would give it a try. No real reason other than to change the look of my 100% stock mall crawler. I don't have the funds for any crazy mods yet.

I haven't heard of this or done it, but couldn't you swap sides to get them flush? I too am wondering why? Does it give the reverse lights more area coverage versus concentrated? Just guessing...

My most expensive mod to date is the sweet ass car seat But I do have some Rubi shocks and rails on the way for $200.

Ah, ok. Do you think swapping the housings from one side to another would work? I like subtle differences that cost no $$$!

I flipped the entire housing. I don't know if just flipping the lens alone would work. I don't know if the bulbs would line up. Ill take a look in the morning.

Let me clarify my question...take drivers side housing off, put it on pass side and vice versa...I would guess you'd get the flush mount. Again, a wild guess.

Do you mean take the passenger side housing, which is now on the driver side, and put it back on the passenger side?

The tail light is actually 3 pieces. You can probably pull the lens, then pull the housing away from shim. The shim screws are on the outside and the ones that bolt them to the body are on the inside (closest to the tailgate).

The only thing doing the tail light flip does is make it look more 'retro' like the TJ, YJ, CJ, etc.
