Step drill bit is the way to go. Using a regular bit is bad news.

"Step drill bit is the way to go. Using a regular bit is bad news"

I used a pair of "cowboys", vice grips with the wide mouth, to keep it safe for a regular high-speed drill bit.

If I didn't have them though, I would have gone the step-bit route.

I wish I thought of the step drill it turned out good but was a pain to get lined up just right. Has any one used a sealant to help prevent rusting behind their sliders?

As thin as the bodies are on these things you could probably get away with a hammer and a sharp nail

Paint your drilled holes and you will be fine, just don't want the exposed metal

I've asked a couple manufacturers and they both say not to seal. It essentially traps moisture where you want it to breathe.

Thanks for the heads up. I'll just be sure to touch up the holes with paint as best as I can.
