Default Question about tire rotation

Hi all,
So i've always known about how to rotate tires, which patterns can be used and that you don't rotate directional tread tires from one side of vehicle to the other. However, i have recently heard from a couple of sources, (one being a head honcho at a wheel works near me), that you should not rotate radial tires anymore from side to side regardless of the tread direction. Says that the way radials are built they settle into one direction and when you rotate them in the other direction, it leads to premature deterioration of the radial belt/bands. Now this was new to me in all my years of owning vehicles and rotating tires (37y/o) but frankly there is some logic to it. Anyone else heard of this or have any insight into the validity of this?
Basically i've heard not to rotate in any 5 wheel pattern and to only rotate front to back, not side to side or corner to corner and this also means not to rotate in the spare so it does not develop memory for spinning primarily in one direction.
Any thoughts? Anyone? Everyone?

I rotate my Nitto's in a clock wise five tire rotation every 5000 miles. At 30000+ miles they are wearing great without any issues that I have ever noticed. But that is me.

I think that if that had merrit, the tire manufacturer's would have instructions not to rotate tires side to side.

This is 100% not true.

I've worked in the tire manufacturing business. There are 100's of tire myths out there.

I've rotated my tires in everyway possible over the years and have never had a tire failure because of the direction. (on non-directional tires)

Cool. Thanks for chiming in. I didnt really believe (or want to believe) it either. Good to hear from someone in the tire manufacturing biz. Wonder why a tire shop guy would tell me that. Maybe could equal faster worn out tires which could mean more frequent tire sales? Lol oh well.

30000+ miles and (forgive me everyone) (please be gentle) haven't rotated my tires yet. But my tread pattern is wearing even & smooth. I never had the time to get my tires rotated but after. Long while I finally got some free time & will be doing it this weekend.

If this was true, there would be no market for used tires. Nobody would know which direction they rotated.

Not to hijack the thread, but I'm about to pull the trigger on a set of directional 35s and this begs to ask the question - do I rotate the spare in on one side and flip occasionally or just don't rotate it in. And if I need it on the opposite side for a short distance, is it a big deal in an emergency?
