Default Re-Gearing parts question...

My window sticker says I have 3.21 gears in my 2014 Sahara Unlimited. I just did the AEV 3.5" lift and 35" tires and need more power. I'm thinking probably need 4.88 gears. Can someone please advise what parts I need to order so a friends shop can do the install? I am confused by all the different gear kits and sizes available. Some say they will only fit 3.73 and up cases, some are 30, 35, 44, Dana etc.

You will need to replace the front carrier with the 3.73 and up carrier.

PM us and we can set you up with all the parts required as well as technical assistance during the install process.

Or.... you could put in a TrueTrac instead of a new carrier.

i just went through the exact same upgrade. I have a 14' JK unlimited sahara and upgraded to a 2.5" lift and 35" tires. i ended up going with 4.56 gears based on other feedback from the forum and speaking with a rep from NorthRidge4x4. I have a 6 speed manual. Extent of my offloading is light trails and beach. I ended up going with a Master overhaul kit from NorthRidge which includes everything you need. It will run you about $825, not including labor. Luckily i had a friend that works in a shop and installed everything. PM me if you have any other questions. Best thing is to call them and provide your details and they will hook you up

TrueTrac is a good option, it is still a new carrier though, an ARB or OX locker is another option as well. It all comes down to budget. Typically we recommend saving for what the OP is actually looking to do and do it all at once. No sense in installing an open diff just to decide in 6 months or a year that an LSD or locker is needed. If the OP is planning on doing the install themselves and does not mind doing work twice makes a difference. Either way the 3.21 carrier will not work in the front.

How are you doing on the 4.56's? Better mpg? More power?

I have a 6 sp manual with 3.73 and 33's. It was a huge difference coming from the stock Sahara tires. I feel like 6th gear is almost useless now and I need to drop to 4th to climb at a decent rate up a bridge. It's hard to tell accurate MPG due to speedometer/tach not being re-calibrated but as of now I average 14.5 compared to 21 on the old tires.

I plan to upgrade to 35's when these are done but I'm hesitant if I'm going to lose more power/mpg. It's a DD with a lot of highway but I enjoy light trails and beaches also. Any advice on a good DIY kit.

4.56 is a good option for the 3.6L engine on 35's. If you plan on going to 37's you might want to consider 4.88's however you can get away with the 4.56 on 37's as well.

As for DIY kit you will need the correct tools to properly set up your R&P. Not knowing what you technical or mechanical background is I would not recommend attempting this job.
