Default The JK goes to war for the US Military?

I ran across this today:

Military Jeep | COMMANDO Tactical Vehicle

Of course I've heard about the J8 and Storm as well as their military use by some middle eastern countries but I'm surprised to see the USA using modified JKs out in the sandbox! According to the video, it is made right alongside civvie Jks in America and has already been deployed for virtually every role the original military Jeeps performed.

Does anyone know more about this? Gotta say, it's too cool to see the Jeep come full circle from US military to civilian use and back again!

I'm curious to know how different the Commando is from a regular JK (besides a diesel engine and guns ) ; it looks like it has coils on the rear axle rather than leaf springs like the J8. Anybody know more?

Sort of settles the auto vs manual debates and the "Rubicon vs ____" debates...

• 5-Speed Auto Transmission with Overdrive
• Two-Speed 4WD System with 4:1 Low Range
• Selectable Front & Rear Locking Differentials

Then again maybe it will just reignite another round of them.

If you know anything about equipment selection for US (or any) troops it's not always about one system being superior over another. You have to consider your average individual who will be operating the equipment. An automatic transmission is the answer for both those who drive manual as well as auto. From a transportation fleet perspective automatic transmissions have long since been preferred so this is no indication of the validity of one form of transmission over another. If you merely go off something based upon its success in getting military contracts we would all be flying Osprey helicopters and shooting AKs.

I worked with (and still do) Jankel - the Company in the US with the contract to be able to sell Jeeps to the Military.

About three years ago we were installing a steerable LED Driving Light System (by AVS) with InfraRed capabilities on a J-8.

For fitment and testing they have me a J-8 for about four weeks, telling me to drive it as if it were a complete evaluation of the lighting. (Off road, etc)

Let me just say this - Dana 60's front and rear - 4-cylinder turbo diesel - it was the most capable Jeep I've ever driven!!!!

There is definitely some good potential in our civvie jeeps, I would totally mount a twin .50 cal machine gun turret on my roll cage you know, for deer season, ya for deer season! yes, we get alot of deer in this part of the woods!
