Default Mastercraft Courser MXT review

In doing my build, I searched and searched for reviews on this tire, and since they've only been out for a short time, they were few and far between. I went out on a limb based on what I did find, and based on Mastercraft/Coopers reputation. I'm glad that I did. I'll explain....

My Jeep is my DD and also my Hunting, fishing, and trail riding companion. So when I decided to take on the build, the tires where a big part of the decisions that I made. I wanted a MT tire that did it all: Light weight, strong side walls, digs good, quiet on the road, good tire life, and all while fitting my stock rim. I needed a tire that had lots of options since I wanted to keep my stock 18's, and I didn't want to use wheel spacers. I landed here......

So probably the biggest question, MPG's: The short answer is, i've not noticed a change. But the tire size I went with is not much wider, it's taller, and only weighs about 10 more pounds each, I didn't expect a big change. In fact, my highway mileage might be a tad better. I've not done a proper mileage test since I set it up with the Procal. (thanks Copyguy)

Road Manners: Road noise nonexistent. I can BARELY hear them through my soft top. They are incredibly quiet and ride very smooth for an LT with a 80 PSI max. I run them around 35 cold PSI with my RS9000's set at 3/5. The ride is better than stock. The tires are siped and slogging through deep puddles on the road at 55 MPH is no issue. I suspect if one were to buy a really wide version of this tire, the mileage would be impacted negatively and it would probably be a tad louder.

Offroad: As I expected, they dig in like any other MT. Climbed a couple clay hills and found some mud holes just to play. No issues with clearing the muck, great traction. Side bite on the tire is nasty. They really look good on the jeep. I'll get some proper pictures of the tires installed and post them later on for reference.

In conclusion, the tires are a great options for people that have a need for an MT, but don't want to deal with the normal BS associated with them. These tires are quiet, handle great on and off road, and won't break the bank. I got a little over 1K in the tires installed locally. That's dirt cheap for an MT for a 18" rim. They are pretty hard as well, and what little i've seen on the net about the tires, they should be a 50K tire.

I'm in for pics. I had been eyeing these and I may end up putting them on my project since I just got fresh duratracs for the jk.

I plan on purchasing these on Saturday.

Going w/ 33x12.50 on a 17x8. Planning on keeping my stock set-up for winter use.

I'd be interested if you have the same experience with the wider tire from a noise/mileage perspective.

It's funny.... My friend and I have been kind of building our jeeps up together, and he ended up going with the Cooper ST Maxx. I went by yesterday and checked them out and they are not much less aggressive than my MXT's. The noticeable difference was the weight. They were a bit heavier I thought. The Maxx is comparable to the Duratrac, minus the Duratracs crappy side wall. Best part? Dirt cheap and easily a 60K tire.

Great review, I'm sold! I just put a brand new set on my Jeep a few months ago, identical to the originals but plan on changing to a different tire next time. My reasoning was that I had a brand new spare that I rotated in and bought 3 identical tires to go with it putting one of the worn original tires on the spare. I'll keep putting the best of he worn tires on the spare from now on but plan on getting a different tire type next time.

I've been eyeing this tire as well. Since duratracs don't come in 37" I've been exploring comparable options to my 35" duratracs. May be the ticket

This past weekend I was able to hit some real trails at Uwharrie National Forest in NC. I posted about the trip in appropriate forum with pics. I pasted a link below.

https://www.jk-forum.com/forums/jk-t...c-trip-306861/

In regards to the tires, they performed wonderfully. Great traction climbing, in the mud (clay slop), and on the rocks. I had trouble on a ledge, but it wasn't the tires, it was a combination of me not having lockers and the line I took. The more I ride on these tires, the more impressed I am with them. Even after a some hard trail abuse and break in, they remain quiet, the ride is great, and they are holding their balance.

HIGHLY recommend.

Just got these tires and I'm surprised at how quite they are. The ride is very smooth. I'm glad I purchased them.
