Stupid danna 44 question
Im lookin into a Dana 44 rear axle for my 07 2 dr ....my question is can i just get the rear while dana setup if i change just the gears in the front? Or do i need a whole unit in the front as well?
Is there something wrong with the current dana 44 in the rear right now? Unless your swapping for a rubi dana 44 or something wrong with your current one then not really any need. Or unless you found a built rear 44 your wanting.

I might be mistaken but he has an 07' so there is a very slight possibility that he may have a dana 35. I remember reading a few threads a while ago that said that a few were made like that. Not sure if it is proven but it sure seems so when I read through stuff. If he is running a later 07' then he has a 44 and his question makes less sense unless he is buying a rubi rear 44 with locker or some other reinforced locker.
I think I understand (if not disregard this).
Depending on what gear ratio you have in the front and what you are getting in the new rear 44, you may have to get a new front carrier with the new gears too.
They are different depending on ratio; Up to 3.21 uses one size and 3.73 and up uses a different size carrier.
I hope that helps.

If the new rear d44 has different gears than the front axle, then yes, one, or both, of them will need to be regeared. If you currently have 3.21 gears, the d30 will need a new carrier, ($80-ish?), or a full case locker/limited which would replace the carrier. If it has 3.73 or 4.10, it will not.
The covers look very different. if you google JK dana 44 and then JK dana 35 take a look at the images and you will be able to tell. Only a "Few" of the 07's had the 35 in the very begininning.
