I couldn't live with a jeep that didn't have a removable top.

IFS=bad.

Diesel engine =good.

It's probably a bit early to really figure out if it will be a worthwhile trade up.

I don't have any reliable information other than rumors from my dealership, but when I bought my 2014 JKUR in March, they told me the plans for the 2017 redesign had been scrapped due to such great sales of the JK. Supposedly the engineering firm in charge of the redesign was told to put it on hold.

That's probably not the best source of information since they are in the business of selling what they have now and will do whatever they must to convince folks to not wait for a future model. Here's a pretty good article in which Sergio Marchionne himself talks about the redesigned Wrangler (without revealing anything other than it is on his mind, which doesn't sound like something that's been postponed) ...

Sign me up for one They can keep the diesel but a boosted gas mill could be fun. IFS....yup I can do that. No fold down windshield? Who cares. Quite honestly if they can make the new gen Wrangler handle better on road, perform just as good as it already does off road, bump the gas mileage, bump the horsepower and drop some weight it will be a game changer. Lets face it, a lot of people that buy these things never take them into the dirt let alone rocks. So if they can make it more appealing to the general population without watering down the capabilities then that should boost sales. If it boosts sales then they will most likely be more apt to offer cool option packages. That's good for us!

Be careful what you wish for.

The new Cherokee, stock for stock, is more "capable" and "improved" over the last Cherokee, on paper. In some aspects, it's true in reality as well. But FCA accomplished that in a way that's completely turned me off to buying one of the new generation Cherokees.

The hope would be that FCA doesn't screw up the Wrangler in the same way.

I was always an XJ guy before I got my JK, and I was heartbroken when I saw what they did to the Cherokee. Can't believe they brought it back looking like that. If they change the Wrangler that drastically, looks like I'll never buy a new model.

BigSteve nailed it in his post above. It is a long way off, but I am hoping for lighter, better fuel economy, lots of aluminum, and IFS is fine with me. Count me in.
