Default 2.5" Lift & Stock Rim Question

Does anyone know why you can run stock wheels with the AEV 2.5” lift kit but the Teraflex 2.5” lift kit calls for wheels with a minimum of 4.5” backspacing?

About 5 years ago, I had installed the TF 2.5” BB on my Sahara that had stock wheels. The passenger side swaybar link bolt head rubbed the rim which was grounded down to alleviate the issue.

Since that was necessary, I could understand the requirement for wheels with different backspacing, but back then, the TF kit did not come with a rear track bar bracket at all.

I would’ve thought the new kits that come with a rear trackbar bracket would’ve alleviated the issue and stock wheels would be fine so I’m wondering what the issue is.

Yup, but you are going to need some spacers. I run the AEV 2.5 with stock wheels, 35s, and 1.5" spidertrax spacers. No rubbing and no issues.

Yeah, I'm looking to run my 35" MTRs that are on 15" rims most of the year but I'd like to be able to throw the stockers on during the winter. I really don't want to buy spacers to run the stock setup for a couple months a year.

You can run stock wheels and tires, but if you want to run wider tires your going to need spacers or new rims.

The issue is the rear links on the TF lift and since the AEV 2.5 does not come with rear links.

Here is what happens with longer TF links and 285/70r17 duratracs on 8.5" wheels with 5.2" backspace

Ok, the longer links must explain the difference then. Thanks for your input.

I wonder if I could just swap back to the factory links when winter rolls around?

Will have some spare Spidertrax spacers going cheap, once my Method wheels arrive.

As long as you don't droop the rear. The short links allow the sway bar to flip or "pretzel" when the axle is drooped too far.

I think Tera flex calls for the 4.5 back spacing because they prep you for the bigger tires plus it makes sure you don't rub on their parts
