For those that have painted your grill, how did you do it? Was there any prep to it needed or did you just paint over the stock paint without doing anything? I'm wanting to paint mine black. I've got to pull the bumper off to put on my wench on and figured I'd do it then. Also, should I go flat or glossy black or bedlined?

If you want to go black.. Why not just plasti dip it. You would spray it on just the same as painting except no prep work. Just spray on several coats and let dry. If you don't like it you can just peel it off.

 

x2 on the plasti-dip. Did it to my wife's white jk. Looks good, easy to do as well!

 

Yup. Dip it. Just do plenty of coats. It will peel off easier when you remove it. And once you get out in the sun, you'll always see some spots you missed.

 

Plastic dipping it is a good idea. Never thought of that. Does that stuff chip easy? I don't know anything about it. Who even sells it?

I took mine in and had my local Line-X spray it.

 

I scuffed mine up with a scotchbrite pad and then degreased it with rubbing alcohol before paint. For paint I used rustoleum truck bedliner spray. It's been 4 years and it's held up great. I'm surprised it hasn't faded at all. My factory fenders were severely faded in 2 years and everything I have used that rustoleum bedliner on has held up perfectly.

 

Plasti dip doesn't chip since it's a flexible material. If you add plenty of coats it will be fine even when washing it. Plenty of people use it on their wheels.

I also like the idea of the Restoleum bed liner. My front bumper is painted with it and it's held up great.

 

I painted my grill on my first one with Bedliner...I know people will flame on my but honestly mopar sells satin black one with the black emblem now you can get it for like 180, I'm just going to do
That for my 2015 painting and prepping is a pain
