I would like to boost the performance of my jeep with a chip .Has anyone put one in their jeep? Thanks

 

Chips are, for the most part, obsolete. The industry uses tuners now.

The new Superchips F5 tuner is pretty well equipped to provide power tunes, as well as handle any gear/tire size changes you might throw at the JK. I don't think the 2016 software update has actually been released yet, but I could well be wrong on that.

If you just want the gearing/tires related software, for $175 you get the 3571 FlashCal.

If you want all of the FlashCal features but also want the engine power tunes, you want the 3876 FlashPaq (For 2015/2016 JK). It's a shame that for the 2015/2016 you have to do an ECM swap. That really sucks.:

Thanks, Larry I also thought it was weird to have to exchange my ECM for another one for the flashpaq to work. Do you know anything about JET products. This supposedly plugs in to the existing ECM

 

Remember that the 25+ HP gains they state are way up at 5000 rpm or so. If you check the dyno charts you will see that down where the majority of us normally drive, you might see 8 or 10 HP. You may 'feel' it, but don't expect to be overly impressed.

Buy a programmer/tuner for all of the added functions they provide, view the performance gain as a bonus.

I had sold Jet chips in the past, but it's been 8 years since I was in the business. They were fine and worked as expected. On many applications with Jet you would send in the ECM and they would do the magic and send it back. On some it was a plug in chip that you could self install. I never had an issue with Jet Chips products, but I'm not sure about the process that they use today with modern ECMs. I like the OBD tuner that they did for the 5.3L Chevy trucks, very good tunes.

I remember chipping my 1985 BMW 325e in the mid 90's. The car was a hand me down from my dad and I wanted to get more power out of it. So I chipped it put a cold air intake and exhaust on it. You know the typical teenage easy mods. But that was actually the start of my love for modding vehicles. Now I do all my work on my Jeep and I really enjoy working on it as a hobby.

As far as chips no need to change them out anymore the computer onboard is programable using a 3rd party tuner so there is no need to change out a CMOS chip.
