After 150k miles, my 2013 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon needed new tires! Through mostly highway driving, and frequent rotations (with spare) the stock BF Goodrich MT's served me well. I almost considered getting another set, and it would save me a lot of money to do so. However, the Jeep urge thirsts for something newer, different, better! And thus, I knew I couldn't be content if I didn't try something different. One of the things I liked about the Goodrich's is that they look really aggressive and "cool", but are still good daily driving tires. Slightly nosier, but perform well under all conditions and they wear very well obviously, since I got 150k from them. Since my Jeep is my daily driver, I wanted a tire that was aggressive like my stock Goodrich's while still being good daily driver tires, like my stock Goodrich's.

I researched different mud terrain tires years back before I even had this current wrangler. Tires are one of the distinctive features that make a jeep a jeep and I loved looking at all the different options out there, and I knew I would have to replace the stock tires eventually. I did a lot of research, and I read a lot of positive reviews about the Firestone Destination M/Ts. They rated better on several sites under all conditions (rough terrain as well as driveability on pavement) than the stock BF Goodrich MTs, they even look similar to the BFs, but a little beefier looking.



I had decided that these were the tires I would buy if I ever needed to get new ones. As I went to order them though, I discovered that Firestone had just released an updated new and improved version of their mud tire, the Destination M/T 2 released just this summer!!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FmpcOtAtxuA So basically, they are an improvement in all respects to their original Destination M/Ts, incorporating all of their new insight and technology since the release of their original M/Ts 15 years ago.

The only decision I had was what size to get. They released the tires in the stock 255/75/17 Rubicon size, but I was seriously considering going bigger and getting the 285/70/17's. However, I decided against going this route because I didn't want to mod my jeep to make them fit without rubbing (which I've heard most with that size had to do) and since it is my daily driver, gas mileage and handling is more important than a slightly bigger tire for the cool factor.

Anyway, I got them and to my surprise they seemed a lot narrower than the stock Goodrich's, though maybe a littler taller. I'm thinking now that I might have been able to get away with the 285/70/17's after all!

Anyway, they ride nice, very quiet on the road, and perform fine so far in the couple days I've been driving on pavement with them. I came across a Rubicon today that had what looked to be as new stock BF Goodrich MT tires, so parked next to it in order to get a tire comparison.

Let me know what you think, are the Firestone Destination M/T 2s taller and narrower than the Goodrich's in the same 255/75/17 tire size? Could I have gotten away with 285/70/17 without spaces / minor mods?

90% highway driving, rotations every 10k miles, and incorporating the spare into the rotations.

Do the new tires look thinner than the stock Goodrich's? I can't help but think that I could have gone with 285/70/17s because they look so much thinner than stock.

Yeah, the life was good but that's what happens when you mostly highway drive and incorporate the spare into your rotates.

Not sure if they are different or not. Looks like the tread patterns throw off the ability to compare.
But holy hell you drove around on that tire in the last pic?

 

That was the tire on the spare and was the worst of the bunch.
